As your WordPress blog grows, you will install new plugins and they all will keep adding new options in your WordPress admin area. As you can see in the below image, It is taken from one of my blogs Post section of the WordPress dashboard. As you can see there are so many options like tags, meta desc, Focus KW due to an SEO plugin. However, personally I don’t find all of these options necessary and I remove most of the options from screen using the WordPress Screen options.
Screen option is one of the best inbuilt features of WordPress, with the help of screen options we can manage the options and menus available on different sections and pages of our WordPress dashboard. For example: we can use screen options to edit the options available in our WP posts section as you can see in the above image, we can use screen options to manage the options and menus available in edit post section and remove all the unnecessary menus and options from edit post section.
Using WordPress Screen options to Manage Menus/Options
Open the Dashboard section from where you want to remove the unnecessary options and menus like the Posts or edit post section.
Now, navigate to the the right top corner, where you see the “screen options”, click on it.
Now, from here you can uncheck all the options that you wish to remove from the WordPress dashboard sections.
Screen options can be really useful in managing Dashboard and getting rid of unnecessary menus and options from the dashboard, like I don’t find the “author” filed necessary, as I am the only writer. In same manner I find the tags,Meta Description and Focus KW fields to be an unnecessary option visible in the Posts section. Therefore, I uncheck them to remove those fields from the screen.
